After a disappointing performance last week, albeit one in which we secured all three points, a more confident outing was required this afternoon versus premiership new boys, Birmingham Stars, an all Somali outfit.

Lozells lined up with a few forced changes from the previous week. Notably, Akhtar returned to centre half alongside me, Shoki slipped back in to right back after a 2-week absence and Ahad started his first full game at left back. Despite the defensive changes, we looked fairly solid throughout the first period; certainly it was an improvement on last week. Lozells dominated much of the first half possession and should have hit 5 or 6. Nevertheless, we settled for a 1-0 half time scoreline with a good goal from Ruhel. The half witnessed a few flashpoints including three absurd penalty claims against me; some of the most comedy diving I have ever seen. Luckily, we had a very good referee.

The second period started brightly with two quick goals for Lozells from Habij and Rubel. As the Somalis began to bicker amongst themselves it looked like a rout could be on the cards. It didn't happen. Lozells found themselves under siege for the final 20 minutes and conceded two sloppy goals. Only a series of last gasp defensive clearances in the dying minutes prevented what would have been an exceptionally disappointing draw.

Final Score:

Lozells Strikers 3 v 2 Birmingham Stars

Three wins on the bounce pushes Lozells into the top 3 ahead of a difficult derby clash versus Sparkbrook next Sunday.

I was awarded my second man of the match award in as many weeks at the final whistle. Makes up for the gashed ankle, swollen toe and cramp I guess.

Rubel took great delight in my award and reckons the number of MOTM awards I win before December equates to the number of wives he is going to find me in Bangladesh. It is going to bean experience if nothing else...
